FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Do you have any questions about putting Marantec operators or accessories into operation and programming them? Here you will find the answers to frequently asked questions. We also offer comprehensive help articles on many issues, especially about our handheld transmitters. If you cannot find an answer specifically to your question, you can of course also get in touch with us via the contact form.

Before Buying an Operator System

Yes, you can! Marantec has developed special drive systems with battery technology for garage doors, which make do without a power connection.

For garage doors, the Comfort 260 accu makes you independent of the power connection. A high-quality battery will supply the drive with power for a long period. When the battery has to be recharged, you can simply disconnect it and connect it to a standard socket in your house.

Alternatively, a modern solar panel can also be connected to the battery unit. You can thus use the sun as an energy provider, thereby creating on alternative source of energy to the classic power connection. Daylight is sufficient for the high-quality panel to ensure the power supply for the drive. The energy generated is stored in the battery and used whenever the door is moved. Of course you can still disconnect the battery and charge it via the plug socket.

In principle, drives can be implemented for swing and sliding gates with inclines or drops of up to 10 per cent

We recommend that you allow an individual check by your specialist retailer. If necessary, we advise you to install additional safety components on the gate system. Your specialist retailer will fit these original Marantec accessories.

On swing gates, a bracket set for rising hinges is used. The Comfort 525, 525 L and Comfort 530 L swing gate drives can be used on inclines up to a maximum of 10 per cent after consultation and subsequent clarification.

On sliding gates, radial dampers, also called rotation dampers, control the speed. This is important in case of sliding gates with an incline or drop. If these gates are unlocked, they would start to move on their own without these components. A radial damper thus prevents these gate systems from getting too fast.

Your specialist retailer will be happy to advise you about additional safety devices for our gate systems in case of installation with an incline or drop.

No, you can also fit the control unit in the garage, under the carport or at another position. Marantec control unit housings are very compact and take up little space. This means that you can be flexible when it comes to fitting the control unit. Your specialist retailer will be happy to advise you on the maximum cable length, the wire cross-section and what you have to bear in mind in this regard.

Suffice to say at this point: cable extensions up to 25 m can easily be made, for instance to fit the control unit in your garage or under the carport. Make sure in this case that the wire cross-section is big enough (min. 1.5 mm²).

All Marantec garage door drives are equipped with an integrated emergency release device. It allows you to open and close the door also by hand in case of a power failure or another technical problem.

Manually opening and closing the door:
To do so, the drive must be disconnected from the door. And this is how to do it: On the drive rail of your door you will find the green ball, on newer rails a green bell, and the red bell. To open, pull on the red release bell. The door is thereby disconnected from the drive. It can now be operated manually .

Closing:
Pull on the cord with the green ball, or the green bell, until you hear a clear clicking noise. The catch mechanism is thereby activated. Now move your door manually until the slide is connected with the rail by a second clicking noise. Your drive is now once again coupled with the door [SEGMENT BITTE LOESCHEN]. It should now move when the handheld transmitter is pressed.

The duty cycle (DC) is the term for the periodduring which an appliance can be used continually. After that there must be a rest phase so as not to damage or destroy it.

For electric motors, an operating mode and a duty cycle (DC) are often specified as a percentage. Motors with no specification or with the operating mode S1 are suitable for continuous operation. Appliances with the operating mode S2 are suitable for short-term operation. If no usage period is specified, a usage period of 10 minutes applies.

Example: If a garage door drive is designated with 20 % DC S2 , then the maximum permitted usage period is 2 minutes. For the cooling down, 8 minutes are required.

A potential-free contact is used to transfer a state or information between electrical devices.

Potential-free means that a connection is passive, which means it supplies or may not supply any voltage itself. External voltage on the potential-free contact on the drive leads to the destruction of the entire electronics.

Normally closed and normally open contacts switch the power circuit. That means they make a connection inside a power circuit or disconnect it.

A normally closed contact (break contact) interrupts the power circuit when activated. When it is at rest and not activated, the contact is closed.

A normally open contact (make contact) closes the power circuit when activated. When it is not activated, the contact is open. It has to close for the power circuit to work.

With our new Light 200 and Light 201 lighting system, you have more light in your garage not only when it is dark. The two LED light strips are fastened onto the slide rails of the door . You thus have the light exactly where you need it: next to the vehicle when getting in and out as well as when driving into the garage.

For our Comfort 260, 270, 280 as well as Comfort 360, 370 and 380 garage door drives, we have developed additional extensions, which will generate even more brightness in your garage. You can fit these extensions quite easily yourself - they are clipped in by means of a simple push-fit system.. The result: twice as much light and only a little extra electricity thanks to power-saving LED technology.

All the settings in your drive, for example for your handheld transmitter, are naturally preserved after the installation. You can purchase the LED extensions directly from your specialist retailer.

Our two videos tell you how you can easily install the extensions. Please make sure that you pull the plug for your drive out of the socket before installation and hence disconnect it from the power supply.

If, after pressing your handheld transmitter, the operator system audibly starts operating, but the door/gate does not move, it is possible that your operator system is unlatched. That means that the operator and door/gate are separated from each other. If this is the case, you simply have to latch the operator back in place. There are different ways of doing this specific to the drive.

It is essential to not that, when being latched, the door/gate is always at the same position at which it was unlatched! Otherwise it is possible that your door/gate will not remain at the previously set position and that the door/gate or drive system will incur damage.

The catch and release mechanism is located under the protective flap on the drive head. Open this and operate the catch either by pressing down the red plastic clip or by rotating (clockwise) the enclosed allen key. Your drive is now latched in place again and the door should move when the handheld transmitter is pressed.

The catch and release mechanism is located inside the drive housing. Please open the front cover of the aluminium housing with the aid of one of the keys supplied. With the help of the socket spanner, press the inset, red catch (before 2021/05) or the steel bolt (as of 2021/05) on the motor, until the gearwheel at the back engages back into the gear rack on the door.

On our articulated arm drive, the catch/release mechanism is accessible from the front side of the drive system. Latch the drive back in place by turning the supplied allen key clockwise in the mechanism .

The underfloor drive is latched directly on the arm. For this purpose, please engage the black plastic lever back in the arm. Your drive is now latched back in place and the door should move when the handheld transmitter is pressed. You may have to release the catch/release mechanism beforehand with one of the keys supplied, if this is locked.

You can quite easily latch the drive system with plastic cover back in place on the front from outside by turning (clockwise) the supplied allen key .

The catch and release mechanism is located inside the drive housing. Please open the front cover of the aluminium housing with the aid of one of the  keys supplied. With the help of the socket spanner, press the inset, red catch on the motor, until the gearwheel at the back engages back into the gear rack on the door.

Before Buying a Handheld Transmitter

Our wireless standard, bi·linked , is used in all our operators. In addition,  we support Multi-Bit, and in individual products the new DM7S standard. HomeLink can be used with our operators.

Learn more about our wireless systems

No. The wireless products emit no radiation harmful to people or animals. Our wireless products are also not known to have any adverse effects on pacemakers or hearing aids.

Find out more about our products’ health aspects.

Your new hand transmitter must have the same wireless system (Multi-Bit, bi·linked or DM7S) and  the same transmission frequency that your operator and your previous hand transmitter use.  You can find the wireless frequency data on the back of your hand transmitter or on the  antenna of your operator

Marantec uses the following wireless frequencies:

  • 868 MHz
  • 433 MHz
  • 40 MHz (no longer supplied — please contact your dealer or
  • our customer service if your operator uses this frequency)
  • 27 MHz (no longer supplied — please contact your dealer or our customer service if your operator uses this frequency)

In other countries, there may be additional wireless frequencies.

bi·linked is a very secure wireless system that Marantec has developed for controlling our  operators. bi·linked is used in our new hand transmitters, such as the Digital 564, 572, or in the wireless code buttons and the fingerprint reader. Wireless transmission is done very securely through 128-bit encryption according to the AES standard — this is also used for online banking or encrypted  https pages like those used in an ordering process. The code  transferred during use is different each time a key is actuated, so that copying or decrypting the  wireless signal is almost impossible.

Would you like to know more about bi·linked? You can find comprehensive information here.

Multi-Bit is a proven, uni-directional, very secure wireless system that sends signals from hand transmitters, code buttons, etc., using 48-bit encryption to the  operator.

Would you like to know more about Multi-Bit? You can find comprehensive information here.

The Digital Management 7 Series, or DM7S for short, is a very secure wireless system that Marantec has developed for managing  larger installations. DM7S is used in our Digital 702 and 704 hand transmitters. Wireless transmission is done securely using 128-bit encryption according to the AES standard and mainly stands out for its  simple, intuitive ease of managing a
large number of hand transmitters

Would you like to know more about DM7S? You can find comprehensive information here.

Yes. Currently, all Marantec operators equipped with the Multi-Bit wireless system are  HomeLink compatible.

You can find comprehensive information here.

Installation and use of our handheld transmitters and radio products

The wireless system’s range depends on the operator’s place of installation and operating device, and can differ in size depending on the installation. The type and properties of the materials the wireless system must communicate through play a significant role. For example, the range in open space is 100%, but with concrete only 60% to 90%.

If your hand transmitter doesn’t work, this can have various, often mundane reasons. First, check the batteries. If you press the hand transmitter and hear that the operator system is running, but the door  doesn’t move, it may be that the operator system is unlocked. Maybe you have unintentionally activated the hand transmitter’s electronic key lock. You can temporarily or  permanently deactivate this.

Further causes of a hand transmitter not working

Would you rather use your smartphone as a hand transmitter? No problem! With maveo, the system for smart garages, you not only open and close  your door, but the system can do still more.

To easily open your door with a 4-digit PIN, you need to connect  your operator and the Digital 525 or Digital 526 code button after purchase.  For this, the code button and a user PIN are programmed in — the following video will show you how to do it.

Marantec code buttons work only in combination with our bi·linked wireless system — your operator must also work with bi·linked. If that’s not the  case yet, it can usually be retrofitted, so that you can use our accessories.

To easily open your door with a fingerprint, you need to link your operator  and the Digital 528 fingerprint reader after purchase. For this,  the fingerprint reader and your fingerprint are programmed in —  the following video will show you how to do it.

The Marantec fingerprint reader works only in combination with our bi·linked wireless system, your operator must also work with bi·linked. If that’s not the  case yet, it can usually be retrofitted, so that you can use our accessories.
